Understanding The Different Ultrasound Technician Requirements By State

Ultrasound tech requirements are important in order for the sonographers to be guided of what to accomplish during the process of fulfilling a career in the field of medical sonography. Since more and more patients are shifting in safer alternatives for medical disease diagnosis, ultrasound technician professionals are in demand.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that the employment growth for ultrasound technicians would be around 19% in 2008 to 2016. With this growth speed, many sonographers will be given the opportunity to have stable jobs and high salaries. The most important thing to do when applying for jobs is to be able to understand the different requirements and rules by state. This is so vital that every sonographer who is eying to apply for a job in any of the hospitals and diagnostic centers in a particular state would be prepared for the various requirements the employer and the state pose.

Since the education requirements will be the same for all states, it is the duty of the sonographer to know the specific details of what educational attainment the medical employers in a particular state will require. For example, in New York, most of the ultrasound job opportunities require that the graduate possess a bachelor’s degree program. Knowing the specific requirement in terms of educational attainment is important to single out the companies so your qualifications will match. Although there are employers who are strict about the level of education and training, there are also those who are not strict enough with the educational requirement. Some employers prefer associate’s degree because they consider the qualifications and skills first.

License may not always be necessary in some states but there are states that require that each ultrasound tech must be licensed. In Michigan and New Mexico, ultrasound sonographers must be licensed enabling to work because it is the state rule for ultrasound technicians to hold the ARDMS license before they can submit application for sonography jobs. The US BLS recommends sonographers to secure ARDMS registration so they could have the best jobs in the field of sonography.

There is a high consideration for the ultrasound technician to be hired once he meets all the requirements of the medical employers and the state. It pays to understand and know all the ultrasound technician requirements by state in order to get the diagnostic medical sonography job of your dream.
