Because of the increasing demand for sonography professionals, several colleges and universities are now established to offer the required education and training to become qualified in performing the duties and responsibilities of the ultrasound sonographer. 1. Montgomery County Community College In Takoma Park
The Montgomery County Community College is a public CAAHEP accredited ultrasound tech college in Maryland. This college is dedicated to offer quality education in affordable and accessible way. This school offers degree programs in associate degree which can be completed within two years and certificate programs completed in one year or less.
2. Sanford Brown Institute In Landover
Sanford Brown is a series of university which is dedicated to offer quality education and training for those who are interested in pursuing a sonography career. This tow-year private school has its accreditation from the CAAHEP to offer training programs and other allied health related programs. Currently the institute is offering one-year certificate programs and two-year associate degree programs in diagnostic medical sonography.
3. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore
The Johns Hopkins Hospital is duly accredited by the CAAHEP to offer certificate programs for general sonography and cardiac ultrasound sonography. Since certificate programs are intended to provide knowledge and skills to medical professionals who are currently working in the allied health services field, all interested medical professionals can be enrolled in this school.
4. University of Maryland Baltimore County in Baltimore
Just like those schools mentioned above, the university is also accredited by the CAAHEP. Certificate programs completed in one year and less than a year are offered in this school. The University of Maryland Baltimore County provides programs with concentrations in general sonography, cardiac sonography and vascular sonography.
Other ultrasound technician schools are also established in Maryland but are not accredited by the CAAHEP. There are more advantages if students take accredited programs. Moreover, completing diagnostic medical sonography in accredited ultrasound technician schools can provide more benefits for medical sonographers in the long term.
