Medical transcriptionist salary when compared to ultrasound technician salary is relatively lower. Although there are factors, which affect the salary ranges of each professional in the Medicine industry, there are still instances when the two professions being compared are not of the same level and have no direct relation with their job description. Medical transcriptionist wages vary but in general are lower when compared to ultrasound salary. Level of experience is always considered when comparisons of salaries are made. In general, the medical professionals who have been working in the Medicine industry for 20 years or more can be compensated with the highest possible salary offered to professionals. Ultrasound sonographers who are newly employed can earn salary starting from $29,696 to $52,029 per year while medical transcriptionist salary for newly employed and those who have been working for less than a year can earn starting from $11,745 to $40,772. For ultrasound technicians who have been working in the industry for 20 years or more than can earn a salary of $54,821 to $78,611 per year while medical transcriptionist have annual salary starting with $15,327 to $51,284. The salary figures above only mean that upon gaining experience from their respective careers.


Before becoming an ultrasound tech, one needs to complete at least the two-year associate degree program in an accredited school. The accomplishment of the educational requirements of becoming diagnostic medical sonographer will qualify the graduate to perform the different duties and responsibilities associated with the profession. On the other hand, medical transcriptionist training can be done in as fast as 12 months to two years. One-year certificate programs will only focus into courses related to medical transcription courses while the associate degree program will cater a comprehensive education and training to individuals to become more knowledgeable in the field of medical transcription. In Florida, the salary for medical transcriptionist is $16,573 to $49,750 per year while $30,100 to $82,434 per year is guaranteed. In Illinois, the guaranteed sonography income is $40,851 to $93,491 while medical transcriptionist could be offered an annual salary of $17,438 to $43,074.

The job outlook for diagnostic medical sonographers will be good from today until 2016. On the other hand, employment opportunities for medical transcriptionist will grow as fast as the average for most occupations and is projected to have a growth of 11% from 2008 to 2018.

In general, an ultrasound technician will earn more than a medical transcriptionist. The medical transcriptionist salary when compared to the medical billing and coding salary has little difference. But when medical transcriptionist pay is compared to the radiologist salary and physical therapist salary (the same level with sonographers), medical transcriptionists still earn lower income.
