The factors that affect ultrasound tech salary range are experience, location of employment, certifications or sub-specialties of the technician, license and many others. For the location of work, it is broken down into two: the city of employment and the state of employment. Both of the city and state employment are affecting the salary range in different ways. New York is one of the states that offer higher compensation for medical sonographers.

Other states such as Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas also compensate sonographers higher than the national salary for ultrasound technicians. Here is the breakdown of the salary an ultrasound tech can be offered once hired in the different regions of New York. The average hourly rate of an ultrasound tech in New York is $32.94.


There are some specific areas in New York where sonographer salary surpasses the average salary. The US national average salary is $74,225. Newburgh and Poughkeepsie are the regions having the highest compensation with an average salary of $93,544. Those who are employed in the hospitals, diagnostic centers and physician’s clinics in Ronkonkoma, Melville and Hauppauge have a yearly income averaging to $88,573. In Ithaca, the average annual income is $86,330 while the regions of Westchester, Long Island, New York, White Plains, Brooklyn and Queens offer sonographers $86,111. In Syracuse ultrasound sonographers earn $81,544 while regions like Burlington, Congers, Manhattan, Nassau and Yaphank compensate ultrasound sonographers with an average of $81, 311. Areas such as Schenectady and Glens Fall ultrasound sonographers receive an average yearly income of $80,980 and $77,849 per year respectively.

Though the last two regions offer lower salaries than the other regions do, it is evident that ultrasound technician all throughout New York earn more than the national average salary for ultrasound technicians. Ultrasound students in New York have chosen a career that will give them a brighter future.

Ultrasound sonographer license is optional for the state of New York and all ultrasound graduates are eligible to apply in hospitals and diagnostic centers where ultrasound technicians are needed. The only requirement of the state for medical sonographers is to have a continuing medical education that is acquired from ARDMS. The ARDMS issues certification for RDMS for continuing education that is renewed every three years.

Sonographer salary is proven higher in New York when compared with the national sonographer salary. In conclusion, starting up an ultrasound technician career in New York will give opportunity for the incoming technicians to make more money.
