Ultrasound technician salary in New Mexico depends on the factors such as location of employment and level of experience. Although there are some regions or areas in New Mexico which offer higher salaries, some areas also offer lower salaries for sonographers when compared to the US national average ultrasound tech salary. There are two states having strict state rules regarding the employment are the New Mexico and Michigan. The US national average salary for ultrasound sonographers is $74,350 per year. The technicians in Sta. Fe are compensated with an average of $86,280 per year while those in the area of Albuquerque are paid with an annual salary of $79,597. The annual sonography income in Farmington is $74,343 while the income in Deming and Silver City is with an average of $73,050 per year. Las Cruses diagnostic medical sonographers are given an annual salary of $62,983 while those who are employed in the regions of Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Roswell and Ruidoso receive $61,071 per year. Even though the salary figures mentioned above are higher or lower the US national average sonography pay, the ultrasound tech salary in New Mexico is in general higher than many other medical professionals of the same level.
Although New Mexico has stricter state rules related to employing only licensed sonographers, the job outlook remain to be good. This is in relation with the report of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, which claims that there is a 19% employment growth for the field of ultrasound sonography from 2008 to 2016. This only proves that the career of becoming diagnostic medical sonographers does not only award a high salary in New Mexico but also stability of employment.
