Ultrasound Technician Requirements In California

Every state in the US has their own requirements when it comes to job hiring just like the ultrasound technician prerequisites in California. Since sonographer salary in California is higher than the average national salary for medical sonographers, it is important for the graduates to become aware of the different requirements of the medical employers to be considered in the ultrasound technician jobs in California. Ultrasound tech regulations in California vary from other state’s regulation with sonographers so it is crucial to know and study these regulations. In this article, the basic requirements will be discussed.

One of the ultrasound tech requirements in California and maybe for all professions is the completion of at least one of the sonography programs. The three options for degree programs are one-year certificate programs, two-year associate degree programs and four-year bachelor degree programs. Both the associate degree programs and the bachelor degree programs are intended for high school graduates while one-year certificate programs are for the medical professionals. All professionals employed in the allied health services and related industries can opt for the one-year program to have a background with the basic ultrasound sonography principles and techniques. Medical employers prefer bachelor degree graduates but they also hire associate degree holders depending on the skills and expertise of the technician.

License for the ultrasound sonographer is optional but some states have state rules regarding license of sonographers such as Michigan and New Mexico. Ultrasound tech regulations in California are not very strict about license but the US Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends sonographer to secure license from independent professional organization such as the ARDMS.

Every state varies in the ultrasound technician requirement. It is the duty of the applicants to make sure that they pass the qualifications from the medical employers. The requirements mentioned above may be included in the sonographer requirements in California that is why all applicants must be able to know the basic requirements for their dream job to be fulfilled.
