Different ultrasound technician schools in the country offer several ultrasound programs. Most states in the US have their own training institutes for aspiring sonographers. Some of these training institutes are community colleges, schools and universities that offer such programs for ultrasound technology.
There are many degree programs. These degrees when chosen wisely will give the student hundreds of possibilities to earn a decent income in the future as an ultrasound sonographer. However, not all degree programs guarantee a successful career ahead that is why wise decision with precautions should be implemented.
There are two classifications of training institutes that offer degree programs in medical sonography. Students can opt to study through traditional ultrasound schools or from legitimate online schools. The advantage of online education is that students have the freedom to make their own virtual schedules. This means that the student’s pace will determine the duration of the online courses. On the other hand, students who opt to study in traditional schools or universities will have the advantage of finishing their degree education in a fixed schedule implemented by the school authorities.
Certificate Programs
Whether the students choose online programs or sit in training schools, there are at least three important programs for students to choose from. The shortest program is the one-year ultrasound technician certification. This is strongly not recommended for those who don’t have a background in Medicine. This is most taken by medical professional who are employed in the allied health industry. Most of the time, physicians have the most number of enrollees because the principles and techniques of ultrasound sonography are greatly utilized in their profession. This will serve as their additional expertise when they finish the one-year program. Usually, the ARDMS awards the credential title “Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RVPI)” to doctors or physicians who availed the one-year certificate upon passing the credentialing examination.
Associate Degree Program
The most opted degree program for sonographers is the associate degree course. This is recommended for the high school graduates who want to seek immediate employment after finishing two years of education and training in sonography. Most of the time, this degree will entitle ultrasound sonographers for entry-level jobs after graduation.
Bachelor Degree Program
Ultrasound technician education such as the bachelor degree, which culminates into a four-years intensive education. The student will be given the best job opportunity after graduating from school. Medical employers mostly prefer graduates of four-year degree courses because of the belief that four years is enough to have the knowledge and expertise needed in rendering an effective and efficient service as ultrasound tech.
The student’s choice of which ultrasound technician education to pursue will be the deciding factor of whether he is going to pave a brighter future or he will end up jobs that will not give him the best opportunities.
