Ultrasound certification is awarded by the ARDMS to ultrasound technician graduates who choose to acquire the optional license. In comparison with the x ray technician certification, the certifying examination is duly certified by the ARRT. It is imperative that graduates of both professions must be able to have concrete information regarding the certification and how to acquire them. Here are some of the important details regarding the ultrasound tech certification and the x-ray technician certification.
What are the requirements before one can secure an ultrasound sonographer certification or x-ray technician certification? For the ultrasound technicians, completing the educational requirements to be qualified in the certifying examination administered by the ARDMS is the most important step. Either the two-year associate degree program or the four-year bachelor degree program is qualified for them to sit in the certifying examination. All accredited programs that culminate in two years or four years will definitely permit the graduates to take the examination just after graduation from ultrasound schools. Ultrasound graduates who acquired non-accredited programs are required to complete one-year of clinical training before being qualified to take the certifying examination from the ARDMS.
The x ray tech certification is more toxic than the sonography certification. The most of the states are requiring x ray technicians to be licensed. Every state in the US follows the recommendation and requirements of the ARRT regarding the certifying examination, but sometimes the requirements vary. There are at least three basic requirements of the most states regarding the license for x-ray technicians. The first requirement is the education and the second is examination. These two are related requirements because the students should have finished an ARRT accredited degree program (a 2-years program or a 4-years program) in order to be qualified. Topics tackled in the certifying examination are radiation and image protection, image evaluation, operation of medical equipment and quality control, patient care and knowledge. Radiographic procedures are also included in the examination. For the ethics requirements, the graduates should not have any criminal offense or accused in any criminal offense because of plea or guilty. In short, the applicant should have a clean record to be qualified for the certifying examination.
Continuing education for both professions is needed in order to stay up-to-date of the new development in the field of medicine and in either the medical technology field or the x ray technology field. The continuing education is also required by the ARDMS and the ARRT in order to sustain membership in the professional organization. The continuing education can also increase salaries because it serves as training for new development in technology, which can be incorporated in their fields to sustain the continuous demand of the sick population for more precise and accurate diagnosis.
