Breast ultrasound is also becoming in demand for the diagnosis of breast cancer especially for women patients. The primary use of the breast imaging is to evaluate the lump or a breast irregularity, which was found out by the medical doctor via the physical examination. Because of the ultrasound imaging, the characteristic of the lump is being revealed. The lump can be due to cancerous tumor or non-cancerous mass in the tissue, or can also be a benign cyst.
Although mammography is the only tool used in the diagnosis of breast cancer, there are some limitations with this tool. There are circumstances that breast cancers are not detected on mammography. The role of ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance imaging is important in these points. The imaging can detect more abnormalities, which could be treated or eliminated by biopsy. During the revelation of any breast abnormalities and irregularities, the physician can perform ultrasound-guided biopsy.
Breast ultrasound imaging has been reliably used in order to correct inconsistent mammography results but it is not a thing that will replace the use of mammography in order to diagnose breast cancer. Breast ultrasound has its own important use and people especially women should be thankful for the creation of ultrasound.
