Located in Wyoming’s very own capital Cheyenne is the Laramie County Community College (LCCC). Established as early as 1968, the institution offers a wide array of academic, technical and community education programs.

Program Description and Details

Under its Health Sciences & Wellness Division is the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program, which runs for six semesters or a total of 24 months. The first half of the program duration is mainly dedicated to classroom instruction while the remainder is to be spent in clinical internship.

As a full-time program, classes are held four times a week, typically from 8 to 4. There are no online or evening courses under the DMS program.

Program Requirements

Although prior healthcare experience or degree is not required, enrollees of the LCCC DMS program must have already completed 28-30 credits of prerequisites. These include courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, College Algebra, English Composition, General Psychology and Physics. Applicants can opt to complete these general education courses at LCCC in about two semesters.

Advantages

The LCCC DMS program is proudly accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Thus, graduates of the program are assured of their eligibility to take the ARDMS and ARRT national sonography exams.

For those who have the passion but do not have the funds to enroll in the program, the ultrasound tech school offers an array of financial aid and scholarships. Moreover, studying at the LCCC is made more convenient with state-of-the-art facilities and even comfortable residence halls.

With the program’s impressive structure and advantages, the LCCC may easily emerge as an excellent choice for aspiring sonographers.
