Ultrasound tech professionals today play an important role in the team of medical professionals. Ultrasound imaging has been used in the United States for over 20 years now and there had been no known side effects. Thus, excellent records were always been proved by imaging. Ultrasound safety should be prioritized by medical professionals since there is a large percentage of the sick and aged-population which are shifting and trusting safer procedures for medical disease diagnosis.

Up to date, there are no known harmful effects of ultrasound imaging but caution should be prioritized especially for fetal imaging. There are cases where parents’ reason of ultrasound imaging is for souvenir purposes. This should not be allowed since ultrasound medical imaging is only used in important matters such as detection of the implications of birth defects, determination of the baby’s sex and determination of any irregularities with the unborn fetus. Frequent ultrasound imaging test causes thermal and mechanical effects.


One of the known effects of ultrasound imaging to the body is the heating of the tissues (slightly) when transducer is applied. Cavitation is also effect to the body where small pockets of gas in the body fluids or tissues are formed. Cavitation has no proven long term effects in the health of the patient. The effects produced with the used of ultrasound imaging has been proven to be safe since the thermal and mechanical effects have not been proven to cause long term effects which cause danger to the patient’s health.

More individuals are now aiming to become ultrasound sonographer professionals because of the fact that the procedures related to ultrasound imaging is becoming in demand. In order to answer the need of the interested individuals to become medical sonographers, several schools are now established. Various degree programs related in diagnostic medical sonography are now accredited by the ARDMS in order to provide a higher quality of standard education to all those who are interested to pursue careers anywhere in the US.

The ultrasound tech pay is competitive and is continuously becoming increasing in time. As there is more demand for safer ultrasound imaging, there will be more job opportunities for current and future diagnostic medical sonographers. The ultrasound imaging procedures do not only help in the diagnosis of various diseases but also provide many employment opportunities and higher income.
