Ultrasound technician education is the key for the aspiring high school graduates and young professionals to practice a profession, which will provide a brighter future among other medical professions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that there would be higher demands for ultrasound tech professionals since the growth of employment in the field of sonography will be expected to have a 19% growth from 2008 to 2016. This growth in employment will provide more opportunities for the incoming sonographers to have chance in having good salary. Upon accomplishing all the education requirements such as the completion of any of the degree programs, the graduates will be entitled as qualified professional.

There are at least three categories of ultrasound tech programs. One-year certificate program, two-year associate’s degree program and the four-year bachelor’s degree program are the three categories for aspiring sonographers. Certificate programs, which can culminate in either less than a year or 12 months, are intended for medical professionals who are currently employed in the allied health services industry. These programs will give them the opportunity to learn the basic ultrasound techniques and principles. Background in basic sonography will be useful for these medical professionals, which can be incorporated in the current respective fields.

Associate’s degree programs for the ultrasound tech are considered to be the top choice and the most popular among the degree programs for sonography. The reason behind this is that students can become ultrasound professionals in as early as two years. This is also a chance for the less fortunate students to complete a degree in a shorter period and grab an employment immediately.

The bachelor’s degree program culminates in four years. Although not all students choose these, it doesn’t mean that it is less important. In fact, the most medical employers prefer graduates from the bachelor degree programs because they are aware that in four years, the skills needed for the ultrasound technician had been mastered by the students. Because of the four long years of achieving the training programs, employers are sure that the graduates have what it takes to render quality service.

Whether students take the certificate program, associate degree or the bachelor degree, it all boils down into one; a successful career ahead as an ultrasound technician professional.
