It is not surprising that many people want to pursue a career in medical sonography, it is because of the high ultrasound technician salary ever desired by all aspiring applicants to pursue the degree programs. Just like any other career, ultrasound tech career also requires several steps to be accomplished and get the desired salary. Here are the steps to follow in order to become the professional you desired in ultrasound sonography.

Choose The Right Sonography School

The most important considerations when it comes to choosing the school for the completion of the training required for ultrasound sonographer is the accreditation of the school. Accredited school can be checked from the list of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. This agency is the one responsible for releasing the names of the accredited schools offering ultrasound technician programs. Contact them if you want to make sure of the certifications of the schools you want. Choosing accredited schools will give you a chance to have a high ultrasound tech salary and a more stable job.

Pursue The Right Ultrasound Degree Program

There are at least three ultrasound technician programs. The shortest program can be done in a year or less than a year. Although this is not appropriate for beginners, this is best for the medical professionals who are already working in the allied health field. This is done in order to expand their expertise in using the ultrasound machine to diagnose diseases. Another program is the two-year associate program that can be accomplished by beginners and those who don’t want to pursue longer career in achieving a four-year degree program. The four-year bachelor degree program entails a job that is permanent and a high income. This means that upon graduating in the 4-year bachelor degree course, the technician is entitled for entry-level jobs and can earn more if experience becomes vague.

Get Certified By The ARDMS

After graduation, it is not required to get a license but pay attention to states, which have state rules requiring license from the ultrasound technician. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is responsible in doing the credential examination and will then issue a license once you passed the examinations. The title of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) will be awarded to you after passing the examination.

After getting the license, you are now ready to apply as an ultrasound technician in several private clinics, laboratories and hospitals. Let us take a look on the breakdown of sonographer salary.

Salaries of ultrasound technicians vary from one place to another and from one private clinic to another hospital. Some factors allow fluctuation in the rate of ultrasound salary. One of the factors is the geographical location of work. Sometimes, the more civilized the area (e.g. large hospitals), the higher is the income. Another relevant factor affecting the salary range is experience. Salary is high for those who have gained experiences in the years of work.

Inexperienced ultrasound sonographer can earn about $19.00 per hour and it goes up to about $26.00 per hour if experience level also goes up. Moreover, ultrasound technician salary is expected to be in the range of $45,000 to $52,000 annually for the technician having little experience and for those with years of experience will reach $69,000 per year.
