For over forty years, the Southeast Technical Institute (STI) has been serving the residents of South Dakota and beyond with quality technical education. The institution currently offers forty assorted major fields of study and grants associate in applied science degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
Program Description and Details
STI caters to aspiring sonographers with its Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. It is taken in by the Institute of Health Technology, being only one of the department’s 21 programs.
The DMS program is expected to be completed in five semesters or approximately two years. Those who start the program at any other period than fall may risk not graduating in the expected amount of time. To receive the Associate in Applied Science Degree, the student must comply with the required credits of 97 units.
For three consecutive semesters, DMS enrollees must finish and pass the specialty sonography classes to proceed to clinical affiliation. The externship is set to be completed in 7 months in medical institutions throughout the country.
Program Requirements
Since the DMS program largely focuses on sonography concepts and practice, enrollees are expected to have taken up 12 credits worth of courses basic to the profession. These comprise of Medical Language, Anatomy and Physiology, College Algebra, and Applied Physics.
Advantages
STI prides itself in their affordability. The DMS program fees are estimated at a total sum of $25,671, including tuition, fees, books and supplies, etc.
In sum, STI’s DMS program is not too different from those offered by other schools. But if it’s inexpensive, quality education they’re looking for, the school is certainly worth a try.
