Medical transcriptionist salary just like any other medical profession salary in the US fluctuates with different factors altering the salary ranges. Although it can be concluded that in general, ultrasound technician salary is higher when compared with the medical transcriptionist salary, it is still imperative to look into details before assuming. This article will discuss about the comparison of the medical transcriptionist income versus the ultrasound tech pay in California specifically, the sonography job description versus the medical transcriptionist job description and other important details regarding both professions.

The main responsibility of the ultrasound technician or the diagnostic medical sonographer is concentrated into getting clear images of the different internal organs, veins, arteries and soft tissues in the patient’s body. On the other hand, the medical transcriptionist job description is concentrated with transcribing or documenting the different procedures performed by medical professionals. Usually, the procedures are voice-recorded documents, which will be then transcribed into a typewritten document. Main tools used for medical transcriptionist are the computer and the headset. The two professions are different from each other that is why there is also a difference in the salaries offered for both professions.


In California, the medical transcriptionist salary in hourly rate is ranging from $11.63 to $23.56 while the yearly salary is $12,000 to $51,395. California is considered the highest paying state in the US in when it comes to the medical transcriptionist jobs. This means that jumpstarting and completing the medical transcriptionist training in California is a good decision. In comparison, the ultrasound technician salary in California can start from $39,262 to $78,537 which an hourly rate is $15.37 to $43.41. The ultrasound professionals evidently receive higher income than the medical transcriptionists.

Medical transcriptionist jobs can be communicated through the internet and these jobs can be performed from home. Other important hospital jobs, which can also be performed, are medical coding and medical billing. When medical coding salary and medical billing salary are compared with the medical transcriptionist salary, there is a slight difference in the ranges. In general, these three professions can offer income from $20, 000 to $45,000 per year depending on various factors.

In conclusion, ultrasound technician salary is higher than the medical transcriptionist salary in California. Although medical transcriptionist jobs are easier and lighter than the ultrasound sonography jobs, the medical transcriptionist salary is higher than other related medical professions.
