In Indiana there are regions or areas which offer lower salaries or higher salaries when compared to the US national average ultrasound tech salary. Nevertheless, the salary offered for medical sonographers is promising and can provide a better future for the professional. Today, the US national average salary given to the sonographers all throughout the country is $74,770 per year.

The range of the average ultrasound salary in Indiana today is from $61,510 to $82, 688 per year. Marion and Lafayette areas offer the best compensation $82, 688 per year while in Terre Haute the annual income given is $61,510. However, this doesn’t mean that all ultrasound technicians are given the same salary in either Lafayette or Terre Haute because the salary figures are all averages. In Merrillville and Gary, the average salary is $74,727 per year while the annual salary in Muncie is $73, 330. The annual income of an ultrasound tech in Kokomo is $73,241while those in Richmond earn $71,452 per year. In Fishers, Indianapolis and Noblesville, the average pay is $71,340 while in Henderson it is $69,593. Both the areas of Elkhart and Goshen offer an annual salary of $69,280 while in South Bend and Fort Wayne, the annual average income is $68,094 and $62,240 respectively.

Ultrasound tech employment in Indiana will remain good even if other areas offer lower salaries than the national average salary for sonographers. This is because according to the report of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there would be a 19% growth for the ultrasound employment from 2008 to 2016. This growth will provide more job opportunities for the aspiring ones who are still in the process of completing the requirements in order to practice in the field.

All in all, even if the salary offered in the different areas of Indiana varies, there is a high possibility that there will be an increase for the lower salaries since location of employment is not the only factor which affects the salary. There are still other factors such as level of experience, certificates and sub-specialty courses finished. In becoming a diagnostic medical sonography, higher ultrasound technician salary is not the only reward but there are still other benefits which can draw the professional to live a better and brighter future.
