Online ultrasound technician certification, is it possible? A sonography certification is the registration of the ultrasound graduate in the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Since a license is optional, ultrasound students upon graduating from any of the sonography programs can opt to sit or not sit on the registry examination of the ARDMS for license as registered for diagnostic medical sonography.
There are two kinds of degree programs. Since becoming a sonographer requires formal education, any high school graduates or young professionals who are interested and willing to go to school can become medical sonographers after graduating. One way of acquiring the formal education is enlisting in one of the accredited schools that offer degree programs for ultrasound sonography degrees. In these schools, the students can finish their study in a matter of one, two or four years depending on the degree program chosen by the enrollee.
Enrolling to any of the online training in one of ultrasound tech schools is another way to acquire the ultrasound sonography education. Online programs are just the same as the ultrasound technician programs offered in real schools. The only difference is that students have the freedom to choose their virtual schedule online. Curriculum and courses are the same between online education and real ultrasound sonography schools. Online certification could be a solution for those who due to circumstances cannot go to a real school.
Online licensing will be possible upon the completion of the associate degree program in any accredited programs. The theoretical education is one of the education requirements, which can be acquired through downloadable courses offered by the online schools. It is important for the sonography student to have a computer and internet at home to be able to connect with the school’s system to access the online courses part of the online certification program.
After completion of the theoretical education online, all students are required to take clinical training in any of the training centers for ultrasound sonographers. It is the duty of the students to acquire clinical training if the online ultrasound degree programs do not include clinical training in their package. It is important to make sure that the programs are accredited with the CAAHEP. CAAHEP accredited programs already include clinical trainings and if graduates wish to take the registry examinations from the ARDMS, the graduates can easily go for the registry examination. Non-accredited programs will require ultrasound graduates to undergo clinical training for one year before taking the registry examinations from the ARDMS.
The process of securing an online ultrasound technician certification is the same with the process for graduates from ultrasound schools. All graduates whether from online or offline programs are qualified to take the registry examinations. Concluding, an online certification is therefore possible as well.
