Though there is higher income for the audiologist than the ultrasound sonographer, it is hard to make a comparison because salary varies in terms of the field of specialty.
The audiologist is the medical professional who is responsible in using various equipment and tools in order to diagnose the problems which are related to the ears such as hearing problems and balance problems. In New York, ultrasound sonographers are highly compensated with an annual salary of $28,000 to $94,000 while audiologists are paid with a yearly salary of $40,425 to $84,895. The average yearly income in Texas for ultrasound technicians is $22,148 to $71,490 while the average yearly audiologist salary is $40,588 to $81,389. In Illinois, the expected salary per year for the audiologist is $40,590 to $81,450 while yearly income for the sonographers is $40,851 to $93,491. In Michigan, a medical sonographer can receive an annual ultrasound salary of $14,497 to $59,910 while audiologist can have $18,121 to $69,531 per year.
The job outlook for the audiologists will be expected to grow faster than the average for all professional occupations in 2018. Although there is a faster growth, there will be fewer opportunities for audiologist because it is considered a small profession. On the contrary, ultrasound job opportunities will be abundant because of the 19% growth from 2008 to 2016. Indeed, the audiologist salary is more attractive than the ultrasound salary but there are more opportunities in terms of job for the ultrasound technicians.
