The role of the ultrasound technician is to generate clear images of the patient’s internal organs by using the sound waves emitted by the ultrasound machine. Before an individual becomes qualified to perform the different duties and responsibilities, he is required to finish the formal education first. Here is an overview of the career and registered diagnostic medical sonographer RDMS certification.

The basic requirements to be qualified to apply in any of the ultrasound technician schools offering degree programs are the high school diploma or GED equivalent and at least 2.75 GWA. The most important consideration the students should make sure is to check the accreditation of the sonography colleges before being enrolled in the chosen degree for study. The CAAHEP is the accrediting bureau responsible for giving accreditation to the schools to offer any degree. With the accreditation of the CAAHEP, the students are guaranteed to receive the quality of education, which is implemented by the accrediting bureau.

Furthermore, the students who graduate at least from the two-year associate degree program from any of the accredited schools are entitled to sit on the registry examination administered by the ARDMS. Non-accredited programs for diagnostic medical sonography will require the graduates to have one-year clinical training in order to be qualified to take the registry examination in order to gain the ARDMS certification.

Upon passing the examination, the graduates will have the ultrasound technician license and can have an edge over the other graduates who did not opt to take the registry examination. In order to maintain membership with the ARDMS, the ultrasound tech is required to take continuing medical education. The purpose of the continuing medical education is to update the knowledge in medicine specifically in the field of medical sonography. Ultrasound experts can have their continuing medical education every after two years and completion of this means that they will be more confident in providing the latest developments for ultrasound procedures.

Becoming a registered diagnostic medical sonographer entails so many responsibilities but there are a lot of rewarding benefits which awaits the ultrasound professional who have successfully completed his degree and acquired his license as well.
